Chinese Culture Summer Camp

This morning we headed over the Chinese Culture Summer Camp for their summer program. We kind of got a little lost because GoogleMaps took us this crazy back way. We were in this housing complex and then all of a sudden the directions stopped. We could see the school, but there was no road to get to it. Weird.

By the time we got into the school, we had missed the opening which was where I was supposed to come in. Whoops. Thankfully, they let me do my part in the middle. I had donated t-shirts with the help of State Farm. We also donated some snacks for the kids on those hot summer days. I just said a little something about State Farm, but it was still cool to see everyone wearing their shirts and having fun.
The presentation was actually pretty cool. We got to see some Chinese Yo-yos, as well as a dragon dance with ribbons. Very cool!

Stay hydrated out there.

Today's weather has been crazy! If you live in Central Ohio, you know. It was a nice day this morning, nothing special--the usual 88 and humid. In a matter of minutes it left like a rain forest and a monsoon ensued. The problem was even though it was 88 degrees, it was supposed to feel like 102. Yowza! I didn't realize we moved the office to South Africa. It poured and blew and then five minutes later it was back to the usual 88 and humid. Weird. Thankfully, the summer is almost over which hopefully means the humidity will go down. Stay hydrated out there.

Why is it so hot?

I had a rough couple of days because of this heat. Had to work at the State Farm booth at the Columbus Jazz and Rib Fest for 4 hours last Saturday and I know I lost 10 pounds at least. My daughter takes tennis lessons every Friday and I sat out there while they took water breaks every 5 minutes, I was sitting there baking! So if you happen to come into the office anytime soon you may think it is too cold and this is the reason!

July 4th Weekend

Man............I had a busy 4th weekend! My daughter plays tennis and had practice Friday night. Saturday afternoon both of my children, my wife and I walked in the New Albany Parade for their soccer teams. Saturday evening we watched fireworks in New Albany ( the finale was crazy!) Sunday and Monday we swam!

My family is my everything. I had such a great time with them. These times are few and far between because of my schedule with work and other events. This weekend showed me that you always have to put family first!

Thank-you for the great weekend, Brooklyn, Jaydon and Mommy! :)

Get Involved!

Some exciting things happened last weekend. One of our staff members, Shelley, worked with GenNext.

What's GenNext? Well, GenNext is for young community-minded volunteers interested in making a real difference in central Ohio, United Way’s GenNext provides a way to be more deeply involved in creating long lasting change in our community. A growing group of more than 400 members, GenNext is a vibrant, talented group of young adults in their 20s and 30s who are interested in serving central Ohio through volunteerism.

Mission: GenNext will further motivate the next generation of central Ohio professionals to strengthen the community by creating an environment where community-minded individuals can participate in service projects and educational opportunities while connecting with their peers. The next generation of leaders will become involved in strengthening a community in which everyone has the aspirations, resources, and opportunities to reach their fullest potential.

This past Saturday these dedicated individuals donated their time to help renovate an elderly woman's house. The team participated in many volunteer activities that included replacing light bulbs with energy efficent ones, caulking windows and doors, and landscaping.

If you would like to be a part of this great service group, please check out their Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/GenNext/97472583712.

Hot and humid day at Crew Stadium

I just got back from Crew Stadium. Boy, was it hot! We got there after the USA game and everyone left.

But I did get to eat some Subway and play a video game with one very cool 10-year-old. I would say I let him win, but I tried to beat him and lost terribly.

Even though it was hot, it was nice to get out of the office into the fresh, hot, humid air.

Friday is the Fourth Friday Fesitval in Uptown Westerville. I better see you all there. It's going to be a hot one, so stop by my table for FREE water!

Crew Stadium Tomorrow

I guess I should introduce myself so that you all know why you should be reading my blog. I'm Justin Giger, State Farm Insurance Agent. My offices are located in Uptown Westerville. You should drop by sometime.

I grew up in Westerville and went to Westerville North High School--Go Warriors! I transferred a little further south for college to the Miami Dade College in Sunny Miami, Florida. I then finished up my schooling in Ohio at Ohio Dominican.

Interesting fact about me: I used to own a Planet Smoothie. I got out of that business--couldn't handle the brain freeze.

Tomorrow should be a fun day. The gang and I are heading over to Crew Stadium to watch the World Cup Games and pass out free stuff. You can even register to win a free iPad! I'm all about that new technology.

I hope to see you all there. Have a great evening!
